65% of people were not born with perfect teeth. In fact, of these people, many of them have received some sort of orthodontic treatment to correct their teeth. Fixing those crooked teeth may be more beneficial than you’ve even considered.

Perfect teeth are more than just your teeth being straight. It is also medically important for alignment, jaw health, and chewing. Not only that, but, perfect teeth help you to feel better when you smile.

The question is, how do you achieve that gradient smile? What types of orthodontic treatments are out there? Follow along below to see what some of your options may be.

Traditional Braces

Up until the past decade, nearly everyone had a story regarding traditional braces. Horror stories of brackets and wires popping off. Now, the way of traditional braces is no longer your only option for straight teeth.

Traditional metal braces are now only one of the options for dental treatments. For many individuals, traditional braces are still the recommended and chosen treatment.

Traditional braces work when brackets are secured to the imperfect teeth with cement. These brackets are connected by thin wires that must be adjusted every couple of weeks. Traditional braces take a couple of years to slowly adjust your teeth into a recommended position.

Invisalign

Growing in popularity for their discrete process of straightening teeth, Invisalign has become a popular option. These removable trays are carefully constructed by your orthodontist to move your teeth into a straight position over time. These trays fit in your mouth like a glove.

Most Invisalign treatments last between 12 and 18 months. Many individuals who choose Invisalign begin to see a difference in just a couple of weeks.

This means of teeth straightening does need to be put in consistently.

Many people who have chosen Invisalign have said that they sometimes forget the mouthpiece is even in. For those sensitive to how braces and other options look, Invisalign may be the preferred option.

Dental Retainers

When dental treatments are complete, it doesn’t mean that your teeth are going to stay where the braces have shifted them to. Wearing retainers consistently is to help keep your teeth in their new positions. Retainers are a step after having braces that continue to provide a particular structure to your mouth.

Crooked teeth can reoccur if wearing a retainer to continue alignment isn’t put in place. If a retainer is provided as a continuing treatment, it’s for the benefit of your mouth.

Oftentimes retainers do not have to be worn at every moment of the day. These aligners can be taken out at mealtime.

Veneers

One of the more expensive fixes for crooked teeth is to have veneers placed over your original teeth. Veneers adhere over any chips and cracks and make your teeth straighter and fix their shape. This type of treatment even erases that discoloring.

This type of treatment is noninvasive. However, it may take a couple of treatments to complete.

The procedure is not only for aesthetic purposes. Veneers protect your teeth from any damage that may continue to happen. They are also a durable option that can protect your teeth for many years to come.

Lingual Braces

Unlike traditional braces, lingual braces go on the back of your teeth. These work the same way that tractional would, only, it gives off the look of not having braces in the first place. The very same brackets and wires are placed in this treatment.

Lingual braces are some of the more expensive braces on the market. They work in the same manner that your typical braces would.

These braces come with the same type of discomfort level as traditional braces would. They are not any more of a problem than any other form of teeth straitening would be.

The Damon System

An option that isn’t often heard of is having the Damon System done for your teeth. This clear bracket replaces traditional braces and silver brackets. There is a patented mechanism that fully protects the wire and gives it the benefit of not being stuck in one place.

There are many fewer broken brackets and wires with the Damon System. You won’t have to worry about the wire snapping or even putting in elastics to keep the braces in place.

With the Damon System, there are fewer appointments to keep up. They are a lightweight technology that improves the past restrictions that came along with traditional treatment.

Palate Expander

When it comes to oral care, a palate expander may be needed to align your teeth and keep them in place. Palate expanders are used in cases of overcrowding. This type of expander widens a narrow bite and helps the teeth to have more room in the mouth.

A palate expander attaches to the roof of the patient’s mouth and gradually pushes the jawbone apart over time.

These expanders are mostly used in younger cases as smaller bones can move and adjust much more quickly.
